How to Use Beard Butter (Step by Step)
Beard butter is simple to use, but a few small details make a real difference to the result. Here is the routine we recommend.
- Start with a pea to almond sized amount, depending on beard length. It is easy to add more, harder to take away.
- Warm it between your palms until it melts to a soft, workable texture.
- Work it into the skin first, using your fingertips in small circles at the roots, then pull it through to the ends.
- Comb or brush through to distribute evenly and train the direction of growth.
- Shape as needed while the beard is still slightly warm and pliable from your hands.
Wet or dry beard?
Beard butter works on both, but it spreads more evenly and absorbs better on a towel dried, slightly damp beard rather than a completely dry one, and far better than on a soaking wet beard. After a shower, pat your beard mostly dry before applying.
Morning or night?
Either works, and it depends on what you want from it. Morning application conditions and lightly scents the beard for the day. How much is too much
If your beard looks greasy, feels heavy, or leaves residue on your hands hours later, you have used too much. Scale back the amount before scaling back frequency, since most overuse issues come down to quantity rather than how often you apply it.
Do I use beard butter morning or night?
Both work. Morning suits daily conditioning and scent, evening suits deeper overnight conditioning, particularly with a bedtime formulated butter.
Do you put beard butter on wet or dry beard?
A towel dried, slightly damp beard gives the most even application and absorption. Avoid applying to a soaking wet beard.
Should I wet my beard before beard butter?
A quick pass with a damp towel or a light misting works well. You do not need to shower first every time.
